We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all of our pupils so they can learn effectively.

At Morpeth Road Primary Academy we regard the safeguarding of children as our main priority. We believe that we all have the right to be happy, to be safe and to learn. We all have the responsibility to make this happen.

We will ensure that:

  • The welfare of the child remains paramount.
  • All children whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious beliefs and/ or sexual identity have the right to be protected from harm.
  • All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.
  • All staff and volunteers working at our school have a responsibility to report concerns to the Designated safeguarding Leads, Mr Martindale (Headteacher), Mrs Walton (Head of School).

At Morpeth road we have a robust internal referral system to ensure that we keep children safe; there is a designated safeguarding board in the staff room with all recent legislation available for staff to read. Policies are available upon request.

We have a number of staff including members of the SLT who are trained in the safer recruitment process ,which ensures new appointments meet safeguarding requirements .

Our Family Team is an integral part of keeping our children safe in education and also our families.

Support systems for both families and children enable staff in the family team to work closely within a multi- agency framework both statutory services as well as the Early Help approach.

Our ethos, values and curriculum in school support the children to become resilient, and help teach them to keep themselves safe both in and out of school .Our positive attitude policy is available in the policy section on this website

The curriculum reflects the importance we put on Safeguarding children and enabling them to safeguard themselves

As part of our Family Team, the children always have access to support and guidance around issues which may affect their emotional development and their readiness to learn

We are compliant with legislation at both local and National levels and the documents can be found by following the links below

We have a duty to prevent extremism and terrorism links to the legal duties of schools can be found below .Our policy can be found in the policy section of this website.

We must also be vigilant around Female Genital mutilation –please follow the link below

We have recently introduced a very effective Safeguarding online management system into our school which enables both staff and designated lead to monitor the children and any concerns carefully.  This means that any concerns can be passed to relevant agencies very quickly

New children and families coming into our school have an induction which lasts around an hour. During this time our Assistant Head and safeguarding lead shares information about the school, including safeguarding information, and also begins to build a positive relationship with both the child and their family.

Children Services involvement is shared as is any involvement with the Early Help Process.

Our Safeguarding and Child Protection policy operates in conjunction with our Positive Attitude, Anti-Bullying and E-Safety policies. For a copy of our Behaviour, Anti bullying policy and E Safety policy please click here to take you to our policy section.Details of how school tackles Radicalisation can be found here.
